More Addresses in Rural British Columbia

By

Canada Post continues to shift rural addressing away from green PO Boxes to address-bearing red mailboxes. This article indicates that a rural area of British Colombia (Regional District of Central Kootenay), which apparently has some 90 different identifiable communities. Canada Post has the same problem as many posts in allocating addresses: who will tell them where the boundaries of the communities are and what names will be on streets and road? The Regional District chief officer hasn’t the resources to do this, and most likely doesn’t want to run the gauntlet of dissatisfaction that would inevitably form if he chose to name streets without consulting local communities. This is always an emotional issue, as we noted in our Post of two weeks ago about Dr. Theodore L. Kazimiroff Boulevard in the Bronx. So Canada Post’s desire to create new addresses, so GADA members can incorporate them in their businesses and services, may be a while in coming. http://thenelsondaily.com/news/general/green-postal-boxes-set-disappear-rural-areas-11110
