IMRG Debut and Plain English PossibilitiesBy
Last plenary meeting of the Consultative Committee meeting to be chaired by the Executive Director was well attended on Tuesday this week at the UPU headquarters in Bern. The agenda included an excellent presentation by the Interactive Marketing Retailers Group (IMRG), represented by Aad Weenig. IMRG has been nominated for membership in the CC and took the opportunity to introduce itself, and it did this very well. Aad showed that ecommerce is growing globally, in some markets at an astounding rate, and it is beginning to level off in the developed country markets, if annual growth at 14%/year can be called “leveling off”. The presentation will soon be available on the UPU website and we’ll publish the results.
So much of the work at the UPU impacts the work of the members of GADA! Data availability, privacy, access to postal system data, economic development, introduction of new systems, postal development and even security. As a result of our own frustration with the “language” of the UPU, something it has taken us nearly 12 years to become familiar with, we have been holding discussions with the UPU on the concept of the creation of a “plain-language” newsletter for GADA members and others that would keep decision-makers better informed about the many important programs at the UPU. We would be interested in hearing from you whether this sort of reporting would be of interest to you. Please send a note to Charles@globaladdress.org and let us know.
