New York Tries Hand-Delivery to Counter Postal Cutbacks | Media – Advertising AgeBy
The “New York” in the title is New York Magazine , a must-read weekly that reviews fashion, plays, movies, restaurants and businesses of all sorts. In short, if you have disposable income and live in New York City, you probably subscribe to this, or have qualified for a free copy, something not that difficult.
It is following Bloomberg Businessweek through the “Customer Exit Door” of the USPS due to delivery cutbacks and price increases. If the magazine actually realizes the savings and service improvements it anticipates, then others will follow. In short, the market is at work. The only thing lacking here is getting access to the mailboxes of tenants in big buildings. Since private deliverers can’t access the mailbox, they are only delivering to doorman buildings and companies. In Europe, the mailbox is open to anyone, but do we want that in the US? Given the horrible reputation “direct mail” has in most of Europe because anyone can stick junk in the consumer’s mailbox, I should hope not.
